If you are looking for a quick review on your diabetes control, over past 2-3 weeks, then there is no test better than this.
Fructosamine test is a less commonly used method which measures your glucose levels past 15 days. It is really helpful in cases of switching insulin regime from one to another and you need monitoring more often.
How it is different from HbA1c?
HBA1c – measures the average plasma glucose level over the past 3 months.
Fructosamine test – measures the average plasma glucose level over the past 15 days or 2-3 weeks.
Similar to HbA1c, which measures the glycation of haemoglobin, fructosamine measures the glycation of serum proteins (glycation means bonding of sugar molecule such as glucose or fructose with a protein or a lipid molecule).
